One year ago I started my bookstagram. In the past 6 months, I’ve made over $10,000 from digital products alone, plus a handful of brand deals on top.
If you’d told me that a year ago, I would have laughed.
Because here’s the context nobody really talks about: I’m from Romania. I don’t have an aesthetic, sun-drenched apartment. I own maybe 10 to 20 physical books, and that’s me being generous. English isn’t my first language. Which basically means no publishers sliding into my DMs, no PR packages showing up at my door, no brand deals handed to me the second I hit a follower milestone.
And it still worked.
What nobody tells you when you’re stuck at “should I even start”
So if you’re standing in that limbo right now, refreshing the explore page, comparing yourself to accounts that look like a Pinterest board come to life, let me save you some time.
- You don’t need a lot of books.
- You don’t need to show your face.
- You don’t need to live in the US.
- You don’t need design skills.
- You don’t even need to monetize it.
You can start a bookstagram because you love books and you want to scream into the void about them with people who actually care. That’s a valid reason. That’s the reason, honestly.
The monetization comes later, if you want it to. The community comes first.
I broke the whole thing down in a video if you want the full story:
And if you’re an author, you especially need to be here
Bookstagram is a community of people who are obsessed with books and actively looking for their next read. Like, they’re already here. They’re already buying. They just don’t know about your book yet.
Every reader on bookstagram is a potential reviewer. A word-of-mouth machine. A person who will photograph your book cover and post it to their 5k followers just because they loved it.
And if you’re a self-published author or you’re still writing your first book? Even better. You can build your audience before the book even exists. By the time you launch, you won’t be shouting into the void. You’ll have a community that’s been rooting for you the whole time.
Bookstagram doesn’t just sell books. It builds the kind of loyal readership that money genuinely cannot buy.
So yes. This is especially your sign. 📚
